Summer.

A busy four months have passed since my last blog, its a job thinking back and flicking through the pages of my diary as to all that took place but I shall try and give a snapshot to what’s been going on.

May came a much planned 4 day cycle tour around the Antrim coast with two friends, starting in Donaghcloney we set for Killyleagh and the shore of Strangford Lough before taking off for Belfast and the Antrim coast. We cycled around the coast as far as Portstewart before making inland towards Lough Neagh, finishing back again in Donaghcloney. It was such a great way to take in the beauty of the coastline with numerous stops for refreshments and relaxation.

With the changeable weather we have had this summer I have attended several vintage gatherings and road runs with the most recent yesterday at Rosemount Estate Greyabbey. This was a working event and it was great to see the machinery in action as they would of been back in their era.

In the workshop things have been steady with a few interesting items such as the images below. Starting with an Oak timber frame for an ornamental garden wishing well, constructed in the same manner as timber frame buildings would have been, like the early examples of this craft during the thirteenth century using green Oak joined together by pegged mortice and tenon joints.

Following on was an idea to make a batch of children’s chairs to be sold as gift items, the pair illustrated in the image below are in Oak awaiting a clear lacquer polish and upholstered seat. These can be personalised with a child’s name on the top rail of the backrest.

Finally we were commissioned by a past client to make an Oak coffee table, the design and brief was well established by my client and after discussing a few points I was set to make this and on delivery it works really well with a previous commission. The American Black Walnut disc, as a contrast to the Oak is a removable top to a circular storage area.

Hi, I’ve been asked to supply and fit an oak frame to fit around a wishing well with 1500mm diameter
The one in your picture looks like what I need to produce but I just wanted to know how much it would be for you to supply a frame like this to Cannock in the Midlands?
Also would you be able to supply green oak battern for the tiles?
    Regards ryan
