Rathlin Island.

Rathlin

Recently I took a day of and caught the ferry from Ballycastle to Rathlin Island.

Rathlin is the only inhabited offshore island of Northern Ireland with a population of just over 100. It is about 6 miles from Ballycastle and is famous for its wildlife and nesting birds over the spring/summer months. From the southern most point its possible to see seals around the shore line.

In the morning the weather was clear so I made my way to the north eastern lighthouse where I could just about make out the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland. As the day progressed it turned showery when I made my way across to the RSPB sanctuary where the majority of the birds had moved on to further lands. On returning to the harbour I took a look around the gift shop and relaxed with a coffee until it was time to catch the ferry.

Back in the workshop we have started to make the Walnut corner display cabinet.
